Job Description: Torts Paralegal
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Torts Paralegal to join our legal team in the Law and Criminal Justice department. As a Torts Paralegal, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support in matters pertaining to tort law. Your primary role will involve assisting attorneys in all phases of litigation, conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and managing case files. The successful candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, a strong attention to detail, and a solid understanding of tort law principles.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist attorneys in the preparation and organization of legal documents, including complaints, motions, pleadings, and discovery requests.
2. Conduct thorough legal research using various resources to gather relevant case law, statutes, and regulations related to tort law.
3. Review and analyze legal documents, contracts, and correspondence to identify key issues and provide concise summaries for attorney review.
4. Prepare and maintain case files, ensuring all documents and evidence are accurately labeled, indexed, and easily accessible.
5. Coordinate and schedule meetings, depositions, and court appearances, while maintaining calendars and deadlines for multiple cases.
6. Communicate with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel to obtain necessary information, coordinate document exchanges, and schedule depositions.
7. Assist in the preparation for trial, including organizing exhibits, drafting witness lists, and preparing trial notebooks.
8. Collaborate with attorneys and other team members to develop case strategies, analyze potential risks, and identify potential witnesses.
9. Stay up-to-date with changes in tort law and legal regulations by attending relevant seminars, conferences, and professional development programs.
10. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to ethical standards of the legal profession.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field.
2. Completion of an accredited paralegal program or certification as a paralegal is preferred.
3. Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a paralegal in tort law or a related legal field.
4. Strong knowledge of tort law principles, legal terminology, and court procedures.
5. Proficiency in conducting legal research using online databases and other resources.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft and proofread legal documents effectively.
7. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload efficiently.
8. Detail-oriented and able to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
9. Proficiency in using legal software, document management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
10. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
